The Walkers story began over a century ago in 1898, when the twenty-one-year-old Joseph Walker opened a bakery in the Scottish Highlands with a £50 loan, driven by the dream of creating the finest shortbread in the world. During the first year, Joseph dedicated every spare moment to perfecting his shortbread recipe, and his efforts paid off as his fame and demand for his quality shortbread grew.

As the business expanded, Joseph's sons, James and Joseph, joined the company, bringing fresh ideas. By 1936, they had introduced a range of cakes, confectionery, and the company's first delivery van, allowing Walkers' products to reach a wider audience.

Even as some manufacturers began to compromise, Joseph remained committed to using only the finest ingredients, and his sons continued to use his original recipe after his death in 1954. The business continued to grow, and by 1961, all three of James' children - Joseph, James, and Marjorie - had joined the family firm, becoming the third generation of Walkers.

By 1975, the company had outgrown its extended bakery and moved to a custom-built factory, allowing them to develop new products such as Chocolate Chip Shortbread and specialty cookies. Within a decade, Walkers had begun exporting their shortbread to over 60 countries around the world, winning three Queen's Awards for Export Achievement.

Today, the fourth generation of Walkers continues the family tradition, using only the finest ingredients, including plump fruits, aromatic spices, chunks of real chocolate, and flavorsome nuts, to create a range of delicious cookies and biscuits, all while staying true to Joseph Walker's original recipe and ideals.
